Hey everyone,
Sorry about the extra-long break I took from blogging, but I was in a place where I couldn't even get a wireless connection for a few weeks! But I'm back in Halifax again, and I've already encountered something that royally pissed me off.
I called the National Post yesterday to subscribe, only to find out that the national newspaper does not do home delivery anywhere in Atlantic Canada due to lack of interest! So I let that sink in a bit, and then hit up the closest grocery store for the paper, still a little pissed that I was going to have to take the inconvenient and expensive route to getting my daily news. Surprise! The National Post is no longer sold in grocery stores in Atlantic Canada, either. My only choice was to go to the newsstand, which is a tad further than I'd like to walk every morning to get a paper. At this point I was kind of ready for dissapointment, so when the lady behind the counter told me that the National Post wouldn't be delivered to her store until 1:30 or 2:00pm, I just gritted my teeth, thanked her and left. In short, by the time I get my newspaper everyday, it won't even be news anymore.
Lack of interest? Come on...smarten up maritimes!

Seaside Blogging
Posts on The Girl in Blue will unfortunately be more sparse than usual over the next few days. I'm going on what I consider to be a much-needed vacation! Summer is reaching it's bittersweet end, so I'm off to catch the sunsets where they sparkle more than they do in the city. I'm hoping that when I do find a computer, I'll still have enough angry pessimism in me to write my usual stuff. Perhaps it'll be carried out to sea for a while (but probably not).
I suggest you make yourself a summery cocktail and relax a bit. If you're socially/politically involved enough to be reading this, you definitely deserve it. :)
Ciao!

How the Munich massacre mirrors current events and exposes a people
Last night I watched a documentary on the 1972 summer olympics in Munich. It focused on one Palestinian terrorist from the event, who is still alive and well, living with his wife and family somewhere in Africa. For those of you that don't know about the massacre at the Munich olympics, in short, a Palestinian terrorist group named "Black September," travelled to Munich in an attempt to take out the Israeli athletes and coaches participating in the games. The terrorist group was linked to Fatah, which is a major party in the Palestinian Liberation Organization (aka: the government of Palestine).
Although the Nazi regime in Germany had occured fewer than 30 years prior to the Munich games, and the memory of the 1936 Berlin Olympics--at which Hitler had used for his own gain during the Holocaust--hung in the air, the Israeli team still played. (Note that they had all lost family in the concentration camps, a major one of which was only 10 miles away from the Munich games.) They were said to have looked at these olympics as a victorious way to celebrate their triumph (by way of survival) over the Holocaust and Hitler's regime.
Two weeks into the summer olympics--an event that is supposed to represent international peace, prosperity and joy--the terrorist attacks happened. Israeli delegation head Shmuel Lalkin was concerned about the lack of armed security surrounding the games, and had raised the issue before the Israeli team arrived. The group was told by the German authorities that they would receive extra security, although they were still housed in an isolated living quarters in the Olympic Village, which could obviously leave them more susceptible to outside attack.
At 4:30am, eight terrorists entered the Olympic Village with the help of some American althetes who were also sneaking into the grounds (they were unrelated to the attack other than this). Once over the fence, the terrorists stole the Israeli apartment keys and began the hostage-taking. (Extra security?) The terrorists overpowered the Israeli wresting referee who attempted to hold the door to his apartment--the first they entered--shut. They then gathered all of the Israeli athletes in the premises, shooting them in the face and smacking them with their guns, and demanded for the Israelis to show them where the other Israeli athletes slept. The hostages did not reveal the location of all of their fellow athletes, and a few of the others slept outside the premises of the attack.
Wrestling coach Moshe Weinberg and Weightlifter Yossef Romano were the first to be shot to death, after attempting to stop the terrorists. Romano's body was displayed in front of the nine still-living hostages as a warning to not fight back.
At 9:30AM, the terrorists made it clear that they were Palestinian Arabs. Their demands included Israel's release of 234 Arab prisoners in Israeli jails and Germany's release 2 German terrorist leaders imprisoned in Frankfurt, as well as their own safe exit out of Germany. A deal was made with German authorities and 2 helicopters were arranged, so the terrorists could board a plane to Cairo.
German snipers were standing by with orders to kill the terrorists during their attempted escape. Admittedly, none of the snipers were trained in sharpshooting, and were unprepared. The German authorities were informed that there were more terrorists than they'd originally planned to take out, but they decided to go through with the plan. They also ignored the fact that the Egyptian government did not want the terrorists landing in Cairo.
The Palestinian terrorists said they would not hold any Germans hostage--a promise that the German authorities fell for--as the Palestinians held the helicopter pilots at gunpoint upon arrival. The rescue plan failed and a bloody firefight between the Germans and Palestinians followed, ending with the Palestinians setting off a bomb in one helicopter, killing all passengers. The terrorists in the second helicopter shot to death the rest of the blindfolded Israeli hostages. The 3 living terrorists were put in German prisons, still alive and well.
On October 29th, a German jet was hijacked by Palestinians, demanding the release of the 3 terrorists. Germany quickly agreed. This hijacking was later admitted by the Palestinian AND German authorities to be a hoax, as Germany wanted nothing more to do with the terrorists. So the German government voluntarily handed over the living murderers of eleven Jewish athletes. This also rid the German authorities of the exposure of how poorly they handled the original attack, had the terrorists ever gone to trial in Germany. Perhaps the German government wanted to rid themselves of the events (a selfish act as it is), but complete disregard for the nation of Israel and the Jewish people was displayed in their cowardly actions...just 27 years after the Holocaust, and 10 miles away from Dachau.
The five dead terrorists' bodies were delivered to Libya, where they received heroes' arrivals funerals, greeted by thousands of cheering Arabs. The arrival of the three living terrorists was even more joyous. An international newscast of their interpretation of the events was immediately set up.
Revenge missions were implemented by Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir; Operations Wrath of God and Spring of Youth. Nothing would match, however, the extreme shock and sadness that sprung from the Munich massacre.
.....
This is yet another example of a bloody terrorist attack, where the Arab terrorists are celebrated as heroes as Israel mourns for the loss of their citizens. These two kinds of people ARE NOT COMPARABLE. Judging by their actions and subsequent reactions, their priorities as a people are clearly different. Their ambitions are different. Blood and murder is celebrated vs. mourned. Do we see Israeli people going to events of international peace, seeking the murder of Palestinian athletes? No. We see Israeli troops acting in self-defense; NOT going out of their way to bombard events that have nothing to do with war and brutally capturing and murdering Palestinians. This is not about the land...it's about the people.
There are countless events that mirror this behaviour. The Munich olympics and the recent body trade with Israel are just two. Explain to me how the Palestinians are the victims and not the murderous terrorists. Because I simply cannot understand that logic.

How to Boycott Israel - Vacation Edition!
Sorry for the lack of posts over the weekend...was in cottage country!
But to make up for it completely, here's a hilarious video that my friend sent me:
(the scary part is, many of you may actually think this is serious)
