Vice Presidential Debate vs. Federal Candidates' Debate blurb..

Just watched the VP debate (we get it broadcast a little later here in the maritimes), and when it was finished I flipped over to the Canadian Federal debate. What a snooze! Same old, same old. I really was totally uninterested in the Canadian debate, which is a shame. The American one was pretty good, though. And to think, it's not even really as important as the Canadian one in terms of rank (and especially because we're Canadian..).

It's late and I still have homework to do, but for now I'll say this: Sarah Palin kicked butt, in my opinion. For someone whom millions of people are calling a complete moron, she can certainly hold her own. She was a lot more polite and diplomatic than Biden, as well, which was nice. And she had a sparkly American flag pin. Kind of a symbol of how she's bringing something new and exciting--and sparkly--to the table!

I'll write more on that tomorrow (the debate, not the sparkly pin), but for now I'll just say that it was thouroughly enjoyed. I do get really bothered by the popular American mispronunciation of the word "nuclear," however..

That's a shame, because one Obama's main approach to dealing with foreign leaders--even the crazy ones--is to sit down and be polite and diplomatic.

You liberals like to think that you have some cred in the 'real word' or the 'real world'! Try again. That dreamy socialist manifesto shit doesn't leave a whole lot of room for anything 'real'. So swallow that happy pill with some ''real' kool-aid my little socialist malcontent!
The only thing worse than a right-wing facist is a left-wing fascist. At least the fascists on the right KNOW what they are. But you are ALL fucked.

Nice sarcasm.

Socialist ideals don't necessarily lead to fascism - they just make it easier to sell. When the government confiscates private property in order to fund government spending or prop up the upper-class, they're called oppressive. When they confiscate private property to "redistribute the wealth", people sing their praise and swoon over the wonderful ideal of "equality". Of course, both the action and the result are the same in both cases, but people are much more likely to turn a blind eye when they think it's being done "for the common good".

On the other hand, we have plenty of examples of fascist states arising from extreme religious indoctrination, or from xenophobic right-wing militancy. Fascism has many forms - the worst thing you can do is assume that it could never happen with people of your particular political leanings.
