Bust out the popcorn because tonight is a DOUBLE debate night. It's really a shame for whoever decided to schedule the Canadian Federal Candidates' debate at the same time as the American Vice-Presidential Candidates' debate. I'm about as interested in Canadian politics as most of the political junkies I know, and I'll still be leaning towards the VP debate. I'm excited to see Palin in action, because I've heard she's a good debater. And we haven't seen too much of her "in action," really, considering the amount of stuff that we've all HEARD and ASSUMED about her. So that should be informative (for better or for worse). I'd also like to get a better idea of Biden's platforms, because he's been hiding in a drawer somewhere and I don't know much about him at all.
I'll be flipping back and forth from the two debates, I'm sure. I'm still a little pissed that Elizabeth May was let into the debate. Since when is the Green Party as serious a party as the others? The NDP in on the debate is okay, because it usually provides a fair bit of entertainment (you just can't write that stuff. It's gold!), but the Green Party? Come on. They're not going to win, and May is kind of a wacko, so I don't understand why they're suddenly being considered a legitimate option for Canada. (I know, you're thinking "May is a wacko?! What about Palin?!") Well perhaps I have a bit of a bias, and I'll admit that. I tend to side with strong, conservative females who work, have children and look like they could kick ass in all aspects of their life. So sue me. But she is being 100% targetted by the media because she is a conservative female. Never is a vice-presidential candidate's personal life SUCH a huge issue. And never would a guy be questioned on his capability to run his family AND the country.
I'm going to watch the debates tonight with an open mind. (I say "debates," because I don't want to discredit Canada too much, although I think we'll just get the same old, same old. And by "think," I mean "know.") I encourage you to give Palin a little bit of the benefit of the doubt, regardless of what you've heard. I assume Biden will get the benefit of the doubt due to lack of publicity-formulated-knowledge that you have of him. (Or maybe you're more informed than I am, in which case, kudos!)

While Rome (the north american economy) burns all these political arsonist Neros fiddle away in more meaningless debates. Except for the Palin (female) factor and the the fact that Joe Biden will no doubt implode, I am unimpressed.
Truth, Honor, Justice, Integrity, Freedom, Honesty are all checked at the door in ALL of these wasted political opportunities called 'debates'. These are in fact just scripted advertising opportunities and do not deserve our attention. Except for the added dramatic value in the Palin/Biden pissing contest, off course.
