Just another day in the GTA

The other day, as my friend and I walked down a busy street in downtown Toronto, we were met with interesting looks from some young, fully cloaked muslim females and their looming male counterparts. The males were glaring while simultaneously hovering 'protectively' over their daughters? wives? whatever, they could very well be the same age. The looks from the gals is what got us. Several nice, well-balanced looks of disgust...with a hint of intense longing. After waving obnoxiously to the ethnic audience we'd accumulated, my friend and I wondered aloud why those girls--who obviously wanted to wear minidresses and heels out to dinner as well (God forbid!)--wouldn't just rip off the burkas and join the party. Then we remembered what happens to the girls who dare to do so, even in this country.

For God sakes. Welcome to Canada.

Wearing a Burqa in Toronto heat and humidity must be pretty difficult to bear.

FREEDOM OF RELIGION

That is all.

Yeah, FREEDOM of religion. There are millions of Muslim women in the world who don't go around in ethnic Saudi dress. Too bad so many Muslim women from all over the world are being pressured into wearing it. Saw a Lebanese girl in Montreal wearing a long white headdress that went down to her waist and then a long white veil over her face and throat. She was flanked by two big Lebanese guys (her brothers)? And I thought immediately of Asqa Parvez.

The hijab is one thing. The complete Saudification of Islam worldwide is another.

The funny thing is, I don't think my post ever once opposed freedom of religion. If anything, it was very much in favour of freedom in general.
